Creepers Add Second Closer

Late Monday night the Brighton Creepers acquired Octvio Dotel, Russ Adams, and Kyle Sleeth in exchange Denny Bautista, Coco Crisp, Ervin Santana. The Creepers filled their need for a second closer and a middle infielder to replace Keith Ginter. The Creeper's GM was quoted, "Santana is a risky guy, but he's got a great upside. With Bautista it's all about harnessing his stuff. If Randy Johnson retires, he might be the ugliest pitcher in the American League. If he gets it all together, he'll be a strike out guy with wins. But he's young, so this is how deals go. Dotel is flakey. Lots of closers are but he seems to have better stuff them most of them. Getting a second closer fills a giant hole, obviously, and I needed to make that deal at this point. I don't expect Dotel to be back necessarily in the AL next year, but if he is, it'll be with the Creepers. Don't forget about Russ Adams." The Creepers have an immediate need for another hitter.

Crisp needs to start hitting if he wants to guarantee he'll remain a regular after Jody Gerut and Juan Gonzalez return. He entered tonight's game at .248/.299/.328.

No serious damage was ever found while Santana sat out most of last year and his mechanics have been tightened up considerably, but his arm remains a serious source of concern. If he keeps having problems staying healthy, maybe he’ll be the next Brad Lidge. As is, the Angels aren’t close to giving up on him as a starting pitcher. By 2007, he could be a terrific fantasy pitcher.

When is Dotel being fitted for that neck brace?
